Building skills for the loan markets

The loan markets depend on people who understand them. We look at how our learning and development programme supports professionals at every stage of their career, from their first role to senior leadership.

Hero

The loan markets are built on expertise. Every facility agreement negotiated, every trade settled and every sustainability-linked loan structured relies on people who understand how the market works and why. Supporting those people is one of the most important things the LMA does.

Learning for every stage of a career

Our learning and development programme is designed for professionals at all levels, from graduates and new joiners to experienced practitioners looking to deepen their knowledge in a specialist area. Courses are developed and delivered with input from market practitioners, so that they reflect how transactions are actually done.

What we cover

  • Foundations: introductions to the syndicated loan market, the life cycle of a loan and the LMA's documentation.
  • Documentation: in-depth courses on investment grade, leveraged, real estate and fund finance facility agreements.
  • Specialist areas: secondary trading, sustainable lending, restructuring, agency and operations.
  • Market developments: courses and webinars on regulatory change, new products and emerging practice.

Every facility agreement negotiated and every trade settled relies on people who understand how the market works and why.

Flexible formats

We know that time is precious. Our courses are available in a range of formats, including in-person classroom sessions, live virtual training and on-demand e-learning, so that members can learn in the way that suits them and their teams. In-house training can also be arranged for member firms that want a programme tailored to their needs.

Qualifications and progression

For those who want to demonstrate their knowledge, our certificate programmes provide a structured route through the core topics, with assessment to confirm understanding. Many member firms use them as part of their own development frameworks for junior staff.

Getting started

Members can browse the full course calendar, book places and access e-learning modules through the learning and development section of the website. If you are not sure where to start, our team is happy to help you find the right course.
